Rev. Joseph Manning
Retired Air Force Chaplain
Rev. Joseph P. Manning, a native of Revere, died unexpectedly at his Cape Cod home on January 24. He was 75 years old.
Father Manning was a Revere native who moved with his family to Arlington in 1950. He was a graduate of Matignon High School in Cambridge and then entered St. John’s Seminary, Brighton. He was ordained at Holy Cross Cathedral by Richard Cardinal Cushing on February 2, 1961. His first assignment was to St. Mary-Star of the Sea Church of Beverly for 18 months. He was the Spiritual Director of the Beverly Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps. For the next six years, he was an assistant at St. Monica’s Parish of Methuen.
In 1969, he entered the Chaplain Corps of the US Air Force and served for more than 22 years with postings in the United States and beyond. His last appointment was as Installation Staff Chaplain at Hanscom Air Force Base for five years, retiring in 1991.
On December 31, 1991, he returned to the Archdiocese and was appointed Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Brockton. While in Brockton, he was appointed administrator of our Lady of Ostrobrama Parish from April to December of 2001 where he oversaw the suppression of that parish. He also served a two term appointment as Vicar of the Brockton Vicariate of the South Region from 1996 to 2002. He formally retired as Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Brockton in 2004. Since that time, he has lived at his Cape Cod Home in Hyannisport.
Father Manning was a long time member of the Arlington Council, Knights of Columbus and the National Chaplains Association.
He was the cherished brother of Alice M. Schmitt of Revere, a devotee of the Immaculate Conception Community Parish and Past Director and Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America. He was also the beloved uncle of Annemarie Schmitt of Revere and Eileen T. Perry and her husband, Henry, of Wakefield; grand uncle of Kathleen M. and Colleen M. Perry, both of Wakefield; brother in law of the late Edward T. Schmitt Jr. and devoted brother of the late William J. Manning, who died in April of 1979.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours today, Wednesday, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Vertuccio Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere. Father Manning’s body will be received at St. Agnes Parish, Arlington to lie in State on Thursday, January 28, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 29 at St. Agnes at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington. William Polsonetti Jr.
Of Medford, formerly of Revere
William C. "Bill" Polsonetti Jr. of Medford, formerly of Revere, died on January 24.
The past distinguished President of the Medford Kiwanis Club, he was the devoted father of Bryan Polsonetti and his wife, Tami, of East Hampton, CT.; cherished grandfather of Payton Polsonetti; brother of Sandra Strate of Revere; uncle of Janine and Jason Strate, both of Revere, and loving companion of Donna Rossetti of Medford.
His Funeral will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Thursday at 10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner St., Medford, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Of New Hampshire, formerly of Revere
Irene M. (Carter) Filippone of Epson, NH, formerly of Revere, died at a Concord Hospice Facility on January 13. She was 69 years old.
A retired medical secretary, she was the beloved wife of Anthony J.; devoted mother of Andrew and his wife, Lynn, Michael and his wife, Anita, and the late Anthony Filippone; daughter of the late Albert and Eleanor Carter.

Catherine (Calabretta) Cerniglia, a lifelong resident of Revere, died at the Boston Medical Center on January 23. She was 93 years old.
She was the beloved daughter of the late Peter and Minnie (DiStasio) Calabretta; beloved wife of the late Anthony; devoted mother of Nino and his wife, Ann Marie, of Andover, Maryann Trudeau and her husband, Stephen, of Melrose, Peter and his wife, Carrie, of Andover and Arthur and his companion, Ellen Fianaca, of Revere. She is also survived by six loving grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Aurelio Perez "Joe" Valdez of Revere died on January 22 at the Boston Medical Center. He was 70 years old.
Born in Cuba, he was a veteran horse trainer who trained throughout the United States most recently at Suffolk Downs.
He was the beloved father of Anthony Perez Storlazzi, USMC, of Camp LeJuene, NC, Mary Ann Galligan and Maria Perez; dear uncle of Michael Perez of Melrose; best friend and former husband of Elaine Storlazzi and is also survived by many loving cousins and friends.

Gerald "Jerry" Miller of Stoughton, formerly of Revere and Brockton, died on January 23. He was 68 years old.

Elizabeth J. (Scibilia) Conway of Lynn died at home
surrounded by her loving family on January 19. She was 50 years old.
Born in Revere, she was the daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Gearraughty) Scibilia. A high school graduate, she was a devoted wife and mother who was dedicated to her home and to raising her two sons.
She was the beloved wife of John Conway Sr. of Lynn; devoted mother of John Conway Jr. and Christopher Conway, both of Lynn; dear sister of John Scibilia of Chelsea, Harry Scibilia and Matt Scibilia, both of Revere, the late Dorothy "Twiggy" Scibilia and Andrew Scibilia. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph J. Ardagna of Cape Coral, FL, formerly of Lawrence, died on December 29. He was 83 years old.
He was born on January 14, 1926 in Lawrence, a child of Frank S. and Carmella (Traina) Ardagna and was the uncle of Frank S. Ardagna of Cape Coral and great uncle of Lisa Ardagna of Revere and Stefano and Gianluca Milazzo of Rome, Italy.

Rosie M. (White) Pixley of Saugus, formerly of Dorchester and Revere, died on January 19.
The wife of Charles G. Pixley, she was the loving mother of George Green of Ohio, Patricia Howard of California, Dawn Angela Rooney of Whitman, Marcus I. Pixley of Norfolk, Diane Pixley of Swampscott and Denise Pixley of Dorchester; sister of Ernest White of California and is also survived by nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Lillian Jane Oldford
Retired Executive Secretary
Lillian Jane Oldford of Saugus, formerly of Revere, Arlington and Cambridge, died unexpectedly in Springfield on January 18, two days before her 94th birthday.
Miss Oldford was born in Grand Falls, Newfoundland, Canada and moved with her family to Revere as a young girl. She attended Revere schools and was a member of the Class of 1934 of Revere High School. She entered the working field at 18 years of age and soon became an Executive Secretary at SS Pierce Food Co. of Boston for several years, before taking a position as Executive Secretary to the President of Gillette Co. She retired from Gillette in 1984 after 30 years of service.
A devotee of the Ladies’ Altar Guild at St John’s Episcopal Church and a member of several other church ministries, she was a former member of the Revere Chapter of the Rebekahs.
She was the beloved daughter of the late Henry M. and E. Gertrude (Lane) Oldford; dear sister of the late Nelson H. and Allister W. Oldford and Stella L. Jones and is lovingly survived by many devoted nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great grand nieces and great grand nephews.

Dora O. (Fiore) Sherriff of Revere died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on January 18. She was 97 years old.
Born in Revere, Mrs. Sherriff worked at Revere City Hall for 30 years in the clerk’s office for John Henry.
She was the beloved wife of the late Irving M. "Herb" Sherriff; devoted mother of Frances "Fran" Reily and her husband, Thomas, of Georgetown, Stephen H.
