Philip A. Barletta of Revere died on November 1.

He was the beloved husband of the late Frances (Amabello) Barletta; devoted father of Patricia Romano and her husband, Robert; dear brother of Anthony "Tony" Barletta Jr. and loving grandfather of Gennara and Nicholas Romano.

His Funeral will be held from the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons-Bruno Funeral Home, 128 Revere St., Revere on Friday, November 6 at 8 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony’s Church at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Edward Johnson

Of Everett, formerly of Revere

Edward E. Johnson of Everett, a former long time resident of Revere, died at the Everett Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on October 21. He was 59 years old.

He was the beloved son of the late William A. Sr and Cornelia Johnson; dear brother of Susan H. Johnson and Charles B. Johnson, both of Revere, Jane Johnson-Davis of Scarborough ME and the late William A Johnson Jr. He is also survived by his loving niece, Libby Davis, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons-Bruno Funeral Home, Revere. A graveside service was held at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park.

 

Raymond Santangelo Jr., 44

Of New Hampshire, formerly of Revere

Raymond F. Santangelo Jr. of New Hampshire, formerly of Boston’s North End and Revere, died on October 23 at Wentworth Douglas Hospital in New Hampshire. He was 44 years old.

A caretaker, born and raised in Boston, he was a family member of the Madonna Della Cava Society, he was the beloved husband of Roberta (Strazzullo) Santangelo, the devoted father of Jessica R. Santangelo, loving son of Raymond F. Sr. and the late Nancy (Tragno), dear brother of Joseph and Emily Santangelo of Winthrop, Gina and Joseph Chiarenza of Lynn, and Paul Santangelo of Winthrop and is also survived two nieces, six nephews, three grand nephews and one grand niece.

Beatrice Furlong, 94

Former Suffolk Downs Executive Secretary, aka ‘Miss Suffolk Downs’

Beatrice R. Furlong of Revere died on November 1 at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center. She was 94 years old.

Born in Boston and raised in Beachmont, she was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Mary (Aratto) Furlong. She was a graduate of Revere High School and business college and during her more than 30 year career at Suffolk Downs, she rose to the position of Executive Secretary. She was known by the racing community as "Miss Suffolk Downs."

She is survived by one sister, Margaret F. White of Revere; one brother, Robert Furlong of Revere and many loving nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Thomas Furlong.

The family would like to thank the third floor staff at Lighthouse Nursing Care Center and Guardian Hospice for their wonderful work.

Her funeral will be held from the Porcella Funeral Home, 876 Winthrop Avenue (Beachmont) Revere on Thursday, November 5 at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony’s Church, 250 Revere St., Revere at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are today, Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemtery, Everett. Cambridge resident

Christine Mackay of Cambridge died on October 26.

The loving partner of Soledad Stratter, she was the devoted mother of Jennifer Mackay, sister of Eileen Vanherp of New Hampshire, John Mackay, Kathy Puemape and Donna Adelman, all of Revere, and is also survived by several nieces, nephews, a grand niece, grandnephew and the Stratter and Puemape Families.

Former Revere School Department employee

Pietrina R. Bagnera, a life long resident of Revere, died on October 28 at Dexter House in Malden.

She was a graduate of Revere High School and a former employee of the Revere School Department.

The beloved daughter of the late John and Lilly (Lacascia) Bagnera, she was the dear sister of Alice Dodge of Revere and the late Anthony and John Bagnera; loving aunt of Irene Geyer, Susan Norcross, James Bagnera, Elaine, John Jr., William, Ronald and Lawrence Bagnera.

Teresa Ruggiero, 92

East Boston resident

Teresa (Shifino) Ruggiero of East Boston died on October 31. She was in her 92nd year.

The beloved wife of Michael E. Ruggiero with whom she shared 68 years of marriage, she was the loving mother of Jo Ann Peroni and her husband, John, of Newburyport, Michael Ruggiero and his wife, Celeste, of Lynn, Joseph Ruggiero of Revere and his late wife, Kathleen, and the late Marianne Ruggiero; dear sister of the late Carmela DiGiulio, Antoinette Gassario, Mary Silva, Irene Ortalino and George Schifino. She was the cherished grandmother of six and great grandmother of eight.

Leonard Richard Sr., 56

Worked for US Postal Service

Leonard W. Richard Sr. of Chelsea, formerly of Revere, died following a brief illness at Kindred Hospital in Peabody on October 27. He was 56 years old.

Mr. Richard was born and raised in Revere and moved to Chelsea as a young man. He was a graduate of Chelsea High School, Class of 1972. He entered the US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict and served from October of 1973 to December of 1975.

He was a custodian for the US Postal Service for more than 15 years until illness forced his early retirement in 2002. He was a long time devotee of First Congregational Church of Revere and served on many church committees and ministries.

He was the beloved husband of 29 years of Marie J. (MacDonald) and cherished father of Leonard W. Jr., all at home; son of the late Benjamin and Jeannette (Labbe) Richard; dear brother of Wayne of Saugus, Arnold, Ernest, Barbara Richard, Elaine Patti and Linda Riley, all of Chelsea, Joseph Richard and Annette Purcell, both of New Hampshire, Janet Sturges of Fitchburg, Joanne Scribner of Indiana, Edward Richard of Billerica, Frank Richard of Revere and the late Benjamin, Robert and Carolyn Richard and Suzette Harvey. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

The Rev. Nicholas G. Granitsas, pastor of First Congregational Church of Revere, officiated at graveside services held at the Mass. National Veterans Cemetery in Bourne. John Griffin

MBTA retiree

John T. Griffin of Revere died on September 14. He was in his 90th year.

A US Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he was an MBTA retiree and a member of the MBTA Pensioners Club.

The beloved husband of Alice L. (Cripps), he was the devoted father of John T. Griffin, Jr. of North Carolina, Michael J. and Judith I. Griffin, both of Malden; dear brother of Catherine F. Griffin, Thomas D. Griffin and his wife, Betty, all of Revere, and the late Dorothy L. Griffin, Mary M. Brennan, Joseph, James and Frances Griffin. He is also lovingly survived by four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Funeral Mass was held at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Revere. Private burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the N.E. Albertina ‘Tina’ Montesanti

Of Winthrop, formerly of Revere

Albertina "Tina" (Paglierani) Montesanti of Winthrop, a former long time resident of Revere, died at home on October 28. She was 83 years old.

She was a former Polaroid employee and a member of the Patriot Civic Seniors, Revere Moose Ladies Auxiliary and St Anthony’s Lady Sodality.

She was born in Cambridge, the daughter of the late Giovanni and Maria (Baldinini) Paglierani; the beloved wife of the late Harding; devoted mother of Maureen Souza of Winthrop; loving grandmother of Jason Souza and his wife, Nicolle, of New Hampshire and Bonnie Fillippi and her husband, Chris, of Winthrop and great grandmother of Paige and Lilly Souza; dear sister of Tudina Misiano of Revere, Eileen Pescatore of Lynn and the late Henry Paglierani and is also survived by her son in law, Gus Souza, two sisters in law and many loving nieces and nephews.

Joan Cesareo of Revere died on October 30. She was in her 102nd year.

She was the cherished daughter of the late Stellario and Vincenza (Triffletti Cesareo; dear sister of Joseph Cesareo and Eleanor Puopolo, both of Revere, Anthony Cesareo of Chelsea, Richard Cesareo of East Boston and the late Lena Cassie, Katherine Stokes, Stellario and Leo Cesareo; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.

John Francis Upton, 75

Skilled Carpenter

John Francis Upton of Revere, formerly of Everett and Malden, died on October 29 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House of Danvers, after a courageous battle with a long illness. He was 75 years old.

A skilled carpenter, he was born in Waltham, the son of the late Harold and Helen (Allen) Upton; beloved husband of Barbara A. (Clough) Upton; dear and devoted father of Jeffrey and his wife, Sumiko, of Saugus, Kenneth of Everett, Renee of Revere and the late Steven; brother of Linda Goodhale of Virginia, Allen Upton of Florida, Donald Upton of So. Hadley and Caroline Upton of Malden; cherished grandfather of Christina Upton Fitzgerald, Julia Upton and Alice Upton of Saugus; Cindy Peters, Kenneth Upton and Stephanie Upton and his great-grandson David Malonson, all of Everett. He is also survived by many dear nieces, nephews and friends.

Nevart ‘Nev’ Bean, 92

Retired Government Bookkeeper

Nevart "Nev" Bean, born December 1, 1917, in Revere, to Ida and Bedros Torokhanian, died October 14. She was 92 years old.

A bookkeeper for the government, she enjoyed spending her weekends at the opera, art galleries or museums. She traveled to many exotic places in her lifetime. Her family will miss her kindness her sweet spirit, and loving heart. "Nev" loved to laugh and had a laugh that made everyone in the room laugh along with her. She had to endure some hard times in this life, but now she rests in the arms of God, and will have an eternity in paradise.__

She is survived by three nieces, Joan Hull, Stacey Pariseault, and Gail Hemphill and one nephew, Richard Staffier.

 

Margaret Oesterle, 84

Verizon retiree

Margaret M. "Peggy" (Teevens) Oesterle of Beachmont Revere, formerly of East Boston, died unexpectedly on October 27. She was 84 years old.

She was a member of New England Telephone Pioneers of America and a Verizon retiree.

She was the beloved wife of 58 years of Francis H. Oesterle, Revere Fire Dept. retiree; devoted mother of Karen A. Oesterle of Revere and Thomas F. Oesterle and his wife, Linda; cherished grandmother o Allison and Luke Oesterle, all of Newnan, GA; dear sister of Dorothy A. McDonough and her husband, William J., of Hanover, MA and the late Eugene F. Teevens Jr. She is also lovingly survived by her sister in law, Mary Teevens, of Kingston, MA and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her devoted companion "Cleo". She was the daughter of the late Eugene F. and Margaret (Hope) Teevens.

Charles Robert Westcott, 69

Owner of The Chart Locker and member of Broad Sound Tuna Club

Charles Robert Wescott of Fort Myers, FL died on October 21, at Hope Hospice, Fort Myers. He was 69 years old.

Born on June 21, 1940 in Lynn, a child of Charles and Yvonne (Weber) Wescott, he was the owner of The Chart Locker for 30 years and a member of The Broad Sound Tuna Club, both in Revere, before moving to Fort Myers nine_years ago.__He is survived by his wife of six years, Theresa Rossie-Wescott; his sons,Robert Wescott and Keith Wescott, both of Quincy; two grandchildren and his sister, Celia Petrillo of Revere. He was the nephew of Leonard and Shirley Derouin of Lynn and the husband of the late Judith (Morris) Wescott who died in 1981. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 14 at 11:30 a.m. at the Beachmont VFW, 150 Bennington Street, Revere. Cosimo D’Aiello, 82

Worked for Perini Construction

Cosimo D’Aiello of Forest Street, Winthrop died at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on October 26 after a long illness. He was 82 years old.

Born in Italy and a resident of the North End, he moved to Winthrop 45 years ago. Prior to his retirement, Mr. D’Aiello worked as a laborer for Perini Construction.

He was the beloved son of the late Pierena (Barbera) and Giuseppe D’Aiello; the beloved husband of Giovanna (Barbera) and the loving father of Joseph D’Aiello and his wife, Valerie, of Florida, Anthony D’Aiello of Salem, Pierena Parece and her husband, Warren, of North Reading and John D’Aiello and his wife, Lisa, of Winthrop; brother of Zina DiSalvo of Revere and Giovanna Calvi of Jamaica Plain; cherished grandfather of Julianne, Michelle, Jonathan, Andrew and Matthew.

Dana L. Popp of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died on October 26

A horse trainer at Suffolk Downs, she was a member of Canter NE and the Horsemen Benevolent Protective Assn.

She was the beloved daughter of Loretta (Barbetta) of the North End and the late Albert A. DiPalma; loving mother of Kristen Popp of Revere; sister of Dolores and Raymond DiPalma of East Boston and Albert DiPalma of Florida and the former wife of Dennis Popp.
