RHS Volleyball Team Remains Undefeated, Takes First Place in GBL

The Revere High volleyball team improved to 8-0 and moved into sole possession of first place in the Greater Boston League (GBL) with a 3-1 victory over Malden in a battle of unbeaten teams last Wednesday at Revere High.

Senior captain Tassya DaCosta turned in another outstanding performance for the Lady Patriots. Tassya set 22 assists for her teammates, continuing her string of 20-plus assists that she has dished out in every match this season.

Teammates Ayra Vranic with 15 kills and Lea Doucette with seven kills paced the Revere attack.

The Lady Patriots took the first set by a healthy margin, 25-17, but the Lady Golden Tornadoes eked out a 25-23 win in the second set to tie the match.

However, Revere responded with a dominating performance in the final two sets, 25-16 and 25-12, to win the match.

Coach Lianne Mimmo and her crew have a busy week on tap: They will host GBL foe Everett today (Wednesday) at 5:15; make the long trek to Tyngsboro to meet non-league rival Greater Lowell tomorrow (Thursday); entertain GBL foe Somerville on Friday at 5:45: and travel to GBL opponent Lynn Classical on Monday.

Willett Paces RHS Golfers in Victory Over Somerville

The Revere/Malden golf team improved its record to 3-2 with a win over Somerville last Wednesday at Stoneham Oaks.

Senior captain Ryan Willett led the Patriot Tornadoes with a 6.5-2.5 win at the number one spot. Other winners of their individual matches included Johnathan Wells at #4, Ollie Svendsen at #5, and Chris MacDonald at #7.

The other members of the team, Frankie Annunziata, Saul Kruckenberg, Bo Bogan and Cristian Lynch, competed hard and assisted the Patriots in securing the win.

“The culture of improvement, positive mindsets, and deliberate practice is enabling all of the members of our team to improve at a rapid rate,” said head coach Brandon Pezzuto.

“Reflecting on the progress over the last few weeks is incredible and I’m very proud of each and every member of our program.,” Pezzuto added.

Pezzuto and his crew are scheduled to play at the Gannon Golf Course against one of the Lynn schools on Monday and then will host Salem at Kelley Greens Golf Course in Nahant on Tuesday.

Girls Cross Country Teams Tops Classical

The Revere High girls cross-country team hosted Lynn Classical on a very windy Friday and earned a 15-50 victory over their Greater Boston League opponent.

“The team ran really well on the course and many of the girls ran their fastest paces of the year,” said long-time RHS head coach Katie Sinnott. “Freshman Olivia Rupp took first place and continues to be a strong runner. Junior Rocio Gonzalez Castillo looked strong and relaxed on her way to a second-place finish.

“Earning personal best paces were freshmen Salma El Andalosy and Stephanie Reyes,” added Sinnott. “Also earning a personal best pace and taking off nearly a minute per mile from her previous race pace was sophomore Daniela Santana Baez.”

The individual results for the Lady Patriots were as follows:

Sinnott and her squad will be looking to continue their strong racing when they face Lynn English on the Lynn Woods course tomorrow (Thursday). They will entertain Everett next Wednesday.

Bilimoria, Shanley Shine for RHS Boys Cross Country

The Revere High boys cross country team hosted Lynn Classical this past Friday.

The Patriots received superb performances from junior Zaraius Bilimoria, who came across the line in second place with a time of 20:11, and senior Brayden Shanley, who was close behind in third spot in a clocking of 20:13.

 “Both boys were right with the #1 Classical runner and it was a very exciting finish,” said RHS head coach Mike Flynn.

RHS ninth grader Luca Shanley ran very well in his first high school cross country race and finished in 27:59.

Flynn and his crew are scheduled to race against Lynn English on the always-treacherous Lynn Woods course tomorrow (Thursday). They will entertain Everett next Wednesday.

Busy Week Ahead for RHS Boys, Girls Soccer

The Revere High boys and girls soccer teams have a busy week ahead against some of their Greater Boston League (GBL) rivals.

The boys are scheduled to play at Medford tomorrow (Thursday), and at Somerville next Tuesday.

Coach Megan O’Donnell and her Lady Patriots, who stand at 2-1-2 in the GBL, are scheduled to host three matches: Medford tomorrow (Thursday), Somerville on Monday, and Malden on Tuesday.
