Beach Developer Proposes Change

Developers of the proposed Springhill Suites Waterfront Square were in front of the Site Plan Advisory Board Tuesday morning to review plans for the hotel.

“I’d like to scratch the dirt by the end of the year,” said developer Budge Upton.

Plans are moving ahead and Upton said they would like to get some utility work done before the ground freezes.

The hotel, a Marriot brand, at 400 Ocean Ave. is engineered by Hancock Associates has had a design change in the footprint of the building which increases the number of rooms from 168 to 172 rooms. The hotel is near the Markey pedestrian bridge and the MBTA wanted the back of the building further away from the MBTA lot line.

The hotel will have two levels of indoor parking and five levels of rooms above. There are plans for a 22,000 square-foot restaurant, a 4,000 square-foot function room and for a Starbucks to be placed on the property. There will also be an indoor pool

“We have pulled the building back and added some parking,” said Katie Cruz, of Hancock Associates.

On Aug. 1 the developers will go before the Revere Beach Design Review Board with its plans.

Upton said the hotel is geared toward family visitors.
