Philly Pretzel to Open New Store on Squire Rd Coming to Revere

By Sue Ellen Woodcock

Philadelphia is a city of firsts and Revere will have the first Philly Pretzel Factory store in Massachusetts when it opens this week at 4 Squire Road.

The first Philly Pretzel Factory opened its doors in Mayfair, Philadelphia, in 1998. The concept was to bake Philly Style soft pretzels all day long so that everyone could enjoy a soft pretzel that is served “Hot Outta the Oven”  as they walked through the door.

“I lived in Philly for 20 years and I love the product so I wanted to bring it back with me to Revere,” said Robert Gesek, a native of Revere.

The founder originally started selling pretzels at the age of 11 on a busy intersection in Philadelphia, and then organized neighborhood kids to work for him in multiple areas of the city.

In 2004, the Soft Pretzel Franchise Systems, Inc., started  franchising the Philly Pretzel Factory Brand across the Philadelphia region, and now expanding outwards from Philadelphia into 12 states.

Gesek is thrilled to be opening up a shop where he grew up.

“I’m excited to have the first franchise in Massachusetts and Boston,” said Gesek, who has a 35-year background in culinary arts. “We can do party platters, items for the holidays and special shapes such as logos.

Philly Pretzel Factory offers consumers a fresh, healthier choice of a satisfying snack with their fresh-baked pretzels that are “served hot outta the oven.” Philly Pretzel Factory was founded in by college buddies Dan DiZio and Len Lehman and has grown into the largest Philly style pretzel bakery in the world, feeding customers at more than 150 franchised locations primarily in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, expanding from New York to Florida.

Philly Pretzel Factory’s menu offers the traditional Philly style pretzel and also includes pretzel twists, mini pretzels, rivets, pretzel dogs, cheesesteak pretzels and a variety of mustards. These products can be found in a stand-alone bakery, transportation and entertainment venues, and in the nation’s largest retailer, Walmart.
