Paul Bennett

Fought long battle with Myotonic Muscular Dystraophy

Paul J. Bennett of Everett, formerly of East Boston, died on June 24 at the age of 44 after a long and courageous battle with Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy.

He was the beloved son of Marie Bennett (Kitchel) of East Boston; dear brother of John Bennett and his wife, Melissa of Salem, NH; cherished grandson of Ida Femino of East Boston and adored uncle of John, Jacob and Jordan. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held in celebration of Paul’s life on Saturday, July 2 at Sacred Heart Church, Brooks Street, East Boston at NOON. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Maria Rizzo

Retired seamstress

Maria G. (DiPierro) Rizzo of Revere died unexpectedly on June 21 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She was 87 years old.

Born, raised and educated in Chiusano, San Domenico, Italy. Maria journeyed to America in 1966 accompanied by her husband and children. She and her family settled in Boston’s North End for 11 years before moving to Revere, where she remained for 39 years. She immediately began working as a seamstress for the Forecaster Clothing Company, where she worked for many years.  Maria took great pride in her home and taking care of her family. She enjoyed cooking for her family which gave her such great happiness and pleasure.

She was the devoted wife of 65 years of Raffaele G. “Ralph” Rizzo; loving mother of Antonietta Picardi and her husband, Robert and Ermelindo “Lenny” Rizzo and his wife, Maria, all of Revere; cherished grandmother of Amy Salvati and her husband, Joseph of Salisbury, Robert A. Picardi, Raffaele “Ralph” Rizzo and his wife, Melissa, Anthony Rizzo and Johnny Rizzo, all of Revere and Linda (Rizzo) Fillion and her husband, David of Salem and the adored Nonna of Julia, Ava, Dylan, Ryder, Jeannette and Melinda. She was the beloved sister of nine late siblings and is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Daniel Flynn

Master Electrician

Daniel G. Flynn of Wakefield, formerly of Revere, died suddenly at Whidden Memorial Hospital on June 23. He was 60 years old.

A graduate of Revere High School, Daniel was a Master Electrician who owned and operated Flynn Electric Inc. for 35 years.  He was a member of the Electricians Union Local 103, Saugus Elks lodge 642 and the VFW Mottola Post.

Born in Boston, he was the beloved husband of Marion (Bird); devoted father of Daniel T. Flynn of Peabody, Michael J. Flynn of Wakefield, and Christina M. Flynn of Wakefield; loving son of the late Thomas and Maria (Cacciola) Flynn; dear brother of Thomas and his wife, Maureen, Joseph and his wife, Wendy and Helene Gardiner and her husband, Peter, all of Saugus.  He is also survived by loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joseph ‘Joe Words” Scannelli

Of Revere, formerly of East Boston

Joseph “Joe Words” Scannelli of Revere, formerly of East Boston, passed away on June 10.

Born on June 21, 1932, he was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Manganello) Scannelli; loving father of Cheryl Fischer and her husband, Brad of Danvers and the late Joseph Scannelli Jr.; cherished grandfather of Ashley Fischer; dear brother of Diana Iannuzzi of Florida and Robert Scannelli of New Hampshire. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Leon DeRosa, Sr.

Of East Boston, formerly of Revere

Leon DeRosa, Sr. of East Boston, formerly of Revere, died  on June 12.

He was the beloved son of the late Nicholas and Ida (Lamonte); loving husband of 34 years to Lucille (DiPasquale); cherished father of Leon DeRosa Jr. and his companion, Natalie Marcil of Fitchburg and Melinda Kendall and her companion, Timothy Buckley of Leominster; beloved brother of Joseph DeRosa of Lowell, and the late Nicholas and Robert DeRosa and adoring grandfather of Carissa, Michayla, Jessica, and Chase.  He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Leon loved his family very much and relished in the time spent together.  He enjoyed visiting hobby shops and had a collection of model trains.  Leon was an avid sports fan with hockey being his favorite.  He was a member of the Elks in Revere for over 40 years and sang in the church choir.  He will be sorely missed by family and friends.

Maureen Conway

Avid reader and music lover

Maureen F.  Conway of Revere passed away in Boston on June 5. She was 82 years old.

An avid reader who loved music, Maureen was born in Revere on February 3, 1934 to Frances and Harold Parsons. She was the mother of Susan Corea and her husband, Joseph of Pelham, NH, Nancy Conway of Chelsea, the late Richard H. Conway and his wife, Leslie of Lewiston, ME, Paul Conway of Revere, Frank Conway and his wife, Maureen of Derry, NH and Maureen Dingee and her husband, David of Chicopee. She was the grandmother of 10, great grandmother of six and aunt of many nieces and nephews. Maureen is also  survived by her sisters Jean Gonzales of Tewksbury and Margeret Parsons of Haverhill.  She was predeceased by her son, Richard H. Conway, David Parsons and Ella Gleitzman.

Richard Kirby Connor

Retired Revere teacher

Richard Kirby Connor of Winthrop died on June 25 at the age of 74.

A retired middle school teacher for the City of Revere for 32 years, he was a longtime member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, a lifetime member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks #1078 and a longtime member of the Winthrop Knights of Columbus Council #162.

He was the beloved husband of Janis L. (DeRoo) Connor; devoted father of Jocelyn E. Connor and Paul K. “Pete” Connor and his wife, Georgeanne Connor, all of Winthrop; brother of the late Paul C. Connor, formerly of New Hampshire and the cherished grandfather of Haley, Richard and Paul Jr.

Visiting hours will be held in the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop today, Wednesday, June 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. His funeral will be held in the Funeral Home on Thursday, June 30 at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church-Winthrop, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Peter Motherway of Revere, formerly of Orient Heights East Boston, died on June 12 after a long battle with many illnesses. He was 63 years old.

He was the cherished son of the late Peter and Rose (Donohue) Motherway; beloved husband of Patricia (Farro) Motherway; loving father of Peter Motherway of Revere; dear brother of John Motherway and his wife, Anne of Arizona, Robert Motherway of Saugus and George and Joyce Motherway, both of Revere. Laura Wangrocki

Past and former member of Ladies of Revere Moose and Chelsea Golden Agers

Laura J.  (Mongiello) Wangrocki passed away on June 23 at Care One of Peabody where she had recently been rehabilitating and receiving supportive care.  She was 94 years old.

Born in Revere, the beloved daughter of the late Lugi and Elvira (Monzione) Mongiello, she grew up and attended schools in Chelsea. She was married to Joseph E. Wangrocki and settled in Revere where she resided for more than 45 years. Her husband predeceased her in 1970.   Laura worked as a nurse’s aide for many years before retiring several years ago.  She was a past and former member of the Ladies of the Revere Moose and the Chelsea Golden Agers.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her son, Louis A. Wangrocki in 1976 and by two sisters, Antoinette Turmminello and Josephine Weiner.  She is survived by her brother, Richard L. Mongiello, a sister, Mary Mongiello, both of Chelsea and her brother–in-law David Weiner of Salem.  She was the cherished aunt of Rachel and Martin Finn of No. Reading, Cheryl and Brian Gideon of Salem, Robert and Janet Weiner of Wakefield; the adored great aunt of Matthew Finn and Alicia Saro and she is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  Funeral arrangements were by the Frank A. Norma Joan Guarente

Ballroom dancer; took great pleasure in raising her children and grandchildren

Norma Joan (Polcari) Guarente, a lifelong resident of Revere, died on June 24 at Wingate of Chestnut Hill. She was 89 years old.

Norma devoted herself to family, and took great pleasure in raising her children and grandchildren. Norma enjoyed ballroom dancing for many years.

The daughter of the late Angelo and Rose (DeYeso ) Polcari, she was the beloved wife of the late Leonard Guarente, the devoted mother of Leonard Guarente and his wife, Borislava Stoyanova of Newton and Dennis Guarente and his wife, AnnaMarie of Revere; dear sister of Angelina “Angie” Terenzi and her late husband, Harry of Revere, Gloria Romano and her husband, Albert of Lynnfield, the late Albina Sasso and her husband, Chester, Helen Trunfio and her husband, Paul, Margaret Moschella and her husband, Anthony, Edith Murray and her husband, Paul and Evelyn Polcari; cherished grandmother of Jeffrey, Elena and Marco Guarente. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Fred ‘Sibby’ Girolamo

Fred J. “Sibby” Girolamo  of Peabody, formerly of Revere and East Boston, died on June 7. He was 88 years old.

A US Army veteran of the Korean War, he was the beloved husband of the late Theresa (Vigliotta) Girolamo; loving father of Janis Merchant, Fred E. Girolamo and his wife, Michelle, all of Peabody and the late Gary Girolamo; cherished grandfather of Renee Merchant, Gary and Stephen Girolamo and the late Danielle Linn – Merchant and adored great- grandfather of Dylan Linn; dear brother of Mary Carbone of Revere and the late Carmen Girolamo. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Celeste “CeeCee” Caccaviello of Revere, formerly of East Boston, passed away June 21.

A retired nurse for the Veterans Administration, she was the cherished daughter of the late Peter and Rita Caccaviello, dear sister of Carla Cress and her husband, Don of Florida and life long friend of Donna Fasulo of Revere. She is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
