Thank You Dan Rizzo

Like so many residents and officials in Revere, year after year former Mayor Dan Rizzo has always been generous to the Community Scholarship Fund that helps Revere High School students with financial aid to further their educational pursuit.

This year Rizzo was really generous.

He donated the remaining funds from his Election Committee that amounted to more than $33,000.

The usual practice of elected officials is to keep their campaign funds as long as possible as they eye another possible run at some elected office that may open up in the future – however far in the future that maybe. Rizzo made the decision to donate his funds in January of this year.

As a result of Rizzo’s extreme generosity, several students will be able to receive financial aid that will make the worries of the costs of higher education less and allow these students to focus more on their studies.

Rizzo set an example that we hope other elected officials will follow as they end their careers.

Andrew Carnegie, who was once the richest man in the world in the late 19th century and gave away his fortune to build libraries like our own Revere Public Library, said, “the man who dies wealthy, dies a failure.”  Rizzo has taken this message to heart.

Thank you, Dan.
