Giannino considering a run for State Senate seat
Councillor-at-Large Jessica Giannino said she is weighing a run for the State Senate seat held by Anthony Petruccelli, who announced that he will be stepping down from the position in January.
Giannino, who topped the ticket in the councillor-at-large election Nov. 3, issued the following statement:
“First – I wish Senator Petruccelli well in the next chapter of his career. I have enjoyed working alongside him on issues that impacted our community. He has been an outstanding advocate for the First Suffolk and Middlesex District, and his leadership in the Massachusetts State Senate will be missed.
To the many people who have called with questions about my intentions, words of encouragemen
t, and most importantly, pledges of support, I am humbled and very grateful. Yes, I am weighing a run for the seat. As a progressive woman and a product of public schools, I understand the importance of a high quality, universally accessible public education, equal pay for equal work and strong access to healthcare in the Commonwealth.
As I seriously consider what promises to be a spirited campaign, I will continue organizing and outreach efforts. I cannot thank you enough for your support and hope I can count on it again. I will keep you informed as things progress and look forward to what the future holds.”
