The announcement by the New England Region of the National Housing Authority and Redevelopment Officers that Revere Housing Authority Commissioner George Anzuoni has been named 2015 Commissioner of the Year comes as no surprise to Revere residents.
For almost four decades, Anzuoni has been a credit to former Mayor George Colella who first hired him and the people of Revere that he has served in his various capacities in City government. He is the embodiment of what residents and taxpayers should expect in a public servant.
As the City Treasurer and now the Chief Financial Officer for the City of Revere, his expertise has made sure that Revere taxpayers received the very best bond ratings that were available and in doing so saved millions in interest charges.
Perhaps, the greatest tangible accomplishment that Anzuoni has rendered to the citizens of Revere has been his active role in the Housing Authority. As the guiding force, the housing projects have been transformed into what these buildings are suppose to be – safe, clean and well-maintained that afford thousands of Revere families, veterans and senior citizens a place to call their home.
Anzuoni has almost served continuously on the Revere Housing Board since the mid 1990’s to the present day except when he was not re-appointed to the Board by Governor Deval Patrick for purely political reasons in 2012. Almost as soon as this wrong happened, Mayor Dan Rizzo corrected it and had Anzuoni appointed to the Board by the City Council where he continues his service of excellence.
This honor that Anzuoni will receive shows how highly regarded he is by his peers in the New England region.
Congratulations, George.
