The Whelan School Library served as the backdrop for Gov. Deval Patrick to sign an Executive Order last Thursday morning calling for a state task force on school safety and security.

The task force would be made up of numerous state cabinet members – from public safety to human services – and would report its findings and a model plan to the governor this summer.

“It breaks all of our hearts that along with all of the good being done in our classrooms, we also have to think of the horrors of what we recently saw in classrooms in New Mexico and previously in other states,” said the governor.
