Kaleb Silva was the winner of the annual Revere High School football team’s Ironman Competition held at Revere Beach.
A junior, Silva accumulated the highest combined point total in the five events: tire flip, farmer’s walk, big bag throw, obstacle course, and the timed run.
Silva edged senior captain Tommy Potrait for first place in the tenth annual competition.
Silva took first place in the obstacle course and also added points with a second-place finish in the tire flip. But it was his consistency across all five events that allowed him to earn the title of “Mr. Ironman.â€
Sophomore Steven Noel, a Revere Pop Warner standout who will be playing his first year of football, displayed his overall speed and quickness in covering the course in a time under six seconds.
Cicatelli said the competition measures a player’s strength, speed, agility, and mental toughness.
Following the competition, the players enjoyed a lunch.
PATRIOTS NOTEBOOK
Portrait is currently the sole captain of the team, but another captain will be announced during the preseason. “We picked Tommy at the end of the season last year because he had a great year and he’s a great leader,†said Cicatelli. “We’re going to open up another captain’s position during double sessions.â€
Cicatelli expects more than 80 players to be in the football program this season.
Revere will be playing in the Northeastern Conference – and in the Division 3 Northeast Sectional should it qualify for the playoffs.
One oddity of the new playoff format is that Revere will play Winthrop on September 27 (with the game counting toward playoff qualification) and a second time on Thankgiving morning. The two teams cannot meet in the playoffs because Winthrop is in Division 4 North.
The six Super Bowls will be played at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.
