John ‘Jack’ Markley

Decorated Veteran and Active Environmentalist

John G. “Jack” Markley of Revere died suddenly on August 24. He was 73 years old.

“Jack” was a decorated U. S. Army veteran, an avid environmentalist receiving the Good Neighbor Award from the Friends of Belle Isle and an active member of the Society for Cultural and Historic Preservation of Revere. He also belonged to the Saugus River Watershed and was involved in many other environmental projects and groups. He was a Life Member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks #1078, Life Member of the Beachmont Yacht Club, and a member of the Star of Bethlehem Lodge AF&AM of Wakefield. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a manager at the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority.

He was the husband of the late Marcia Allan and will be deeply missed by his “lady friend” for many years, Edith Raymond of Winthrop and her daughters Mary Lou Costigan and Lisa Delaney, and Edith’s three grandchildren. He was the dear brother of Sylvia “Sue” Gray of Winthrop, the late Dorothy Merrill of Florida and Charles Markley of Winthrop.

Born in Medford, he was the cherished son of the late John G. and Mary (Whelan) Markley; nephew of Pat Damour of New Hampshire and is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Debra Siraco

Revere resident

Debra A.(Barone)Siraco of Revere died August 28. She was 57 years old.

She was the loving wife of Stephen Siraco and the beloved daughter of Vincent and Dorothy (Simmers) Barone of Brockton. She also leaves her husband’s family members, aunts, uncles and cousins.

All are welcome to attend calling hours Today, Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton. Patricia ‘Pat’ Overka

Of Revere, formerly of East Boston

Patricia “Pat” (Port) Overka of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died on August 28.

She was the devoted mother of Joseph “Bobby” Overka and his companion, Christine Chancey of Randolph and Daryl Overka and his wife, Sherry of Revere; dear sister of Kevin, Brian, Maureen, and Hannah; cherished grandmother of five grandchildren and great grandmother of four adored great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many fond nieces and nephews.

Francis Pierce

Former Revere resident

Francis B. Pierce, formerly of Revere and Dracut, died on August 27 following a long illness. He was in his 80th year.

The son of the late Walter H. and Catherine (McFarland) Pierce, he was the dear brother of Agnes Ferrioli of Revere and the late Cecilia Saltalamacchia and Walter H. Pierce Jr.; beloved father of Cindy Pierce and her friend, David Keller of Holyoke, Arlene Pierce and her husband, Robert Dangi of Greenland, NH and Brenda Coyle and her husband, Sean of Salem, NH. He is also lovingly survived by his former wife Elaine (Malvermi) Peters of Derry, NH, three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his brother in law Salvatore Saltalamacchia of Revere.

Family and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Thursday, September 1 at 10:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, (corner of Beach Street and Winthrop Avenue) Revere, followed by burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Philomena ‘Phyllis’ Ford

Lynn resident

 Philomena “Phyllis” (Ricci) Ford of Lynn died peacefully at home in her sleep surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness.  She was 95 years old.

The beloved wife of the late Edward F. Ford, she was born in Everett, the daughter of the late Theodore and Maria (Valente) Ricci.  She was raised in Everett, was a graduate of Everett High School and had been a resident of Lynn for the past 65 years.

She was a former member of the Saint Pius V Sodality and was involved in Saint Mary’s Bingo.  An avid Red Sox fan, she also loved sewing, gardening, reading and playing cards.  Above all, she was devoted to her family.

She leaves her children, Edward T. Ford of Lynn and Elaine A. McBride of Chelmsford; her grandchildren, Daniel Belkas and Lisa Sheedy; great grandchildren, Cameron, Danny, Cody, Nathan and Carley Marie. She was the sister of Eleanor Dennis of Chelmsford and the mother of the late Janice M. Lougee, sister of the late Cammy Ciaburri and Pasquale, Anthony and Joseph Ricci.

Vincent Viarella

Of Revere, formerly of East Boston

Vincent P. Viarella of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died on August 26.

He was the beloved husband of Janice (Piazza) Viarella with whom he shared 41 years of marriage; loving father of James Viarella and his wife, Janine of Chelmsford, Brian Viarella and his partner, Leonard Clifford, and Jeannine Viarella and her fiancé, Jermaine Hernandez, all of Revere; dear brother of Joseph of Revere, John and Stephen, both of East Boston, Catherine Freni of Medford, Joanne Stone of Chelsea, and the late Michael and Salvatore Viarella; cherished grandfather of Brendan Viarella and uncle to many nieces, nephews and friends.

Albert Rizzo Sr.

Decorated Veteran and DPW Retiree

Albert G. Rizzo Sr. died in Revere following a long illness. He was 89 years old.

A decorated US Army Veteran of World War II, he was a retiree of the Department of Public Works-City of Revere.

He was the beloved husband of the late Frances J. (Kastner); devoted father of Albert G. Rizzo, Jr. and his wife, Brenda of Revere, Sharon Rizzo and her partner, Julie Baglione of Reading and David Rizzo and his wife, Judy of West Peabody; dear brother of former Revere School Committeeman Anthony D. Rizzo of Las Vegas, NV and the late Gaetano “Guy” Rizzo, Benjamin Rizzo, Marciano “Mushie” Rizzo and Jennie Carbone. He is also lovingly survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, Revere. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Angelo Fasulo

Malden resident

Angelo M. Fasulo of Malden, formerly of the North End of Boston, died on August 26.

A US Army veteran of World War II, he was the beloved husband of Florence J. (Poupolo); devoted father of Emily J. Barreiro and her husband, Matthew of Stoneham, Donna M. Fasulo of Revere, Eileen J. Fasulo of Malden, and Mark R. Fasulo of Malden; cherished brother of the late Anthony Fasulo; loving grandfather of four, great-grandfather of 11, and great-great grandfather of four.

Augustine Pelosi

Former Revere resident

Augustine R. Pelosi, born in Revere, and a resident of Reading and Fitchburg, died on August 25 after a long illness. He was 80 years old.

He leaves his wife Margaret, his son, Robert Pelosi and husband James Follett, and his chosen family, William Conley, all of Wilmington, Vermont. He is also survived by his sister, Theresa LaPorte of Lynn, sister-in-law, Dorothy Pelosi of Revere, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are by the Badger Funeral Home, Groton. Visiting hours will begin at 11 a.m. at Saint Mary’s-in-the-Mountains today, Wednesday, Aug. 31 followed by services at noon. Kenneth Ferullo

Dept. of Corrections Officer

Kenneth A. Ferullo, a Massachusetts Department of Corrections Officer, died on August 24 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a tragic accident. He was 49 years old.

Born in Malden, he was the beloved son of Carl and Carol (Morgan) Ferullo.  He grew up in Everett, graduated from Everett High School and enlisted in the US Navy after graduation. He served during peacetime and was honorably discharged.  A corrections officer with the Mass. D.O.C. for the past 18 years, he was stationed at Boston Pre-Release for the last four years.  He was a member in good standing with the M.C.O.F.U. and was a member of Mount Carmel Lodge AF & AM in Lynn.

He was the beloved husband of Mary A. (Capone) Ferullo and devoted father of Anthony, Kenny and Angelina Ferullo all at home in Everett; loving son of Carl Ferullo of Saugus and Carol (Morgan) Ferullo of Everett; cherished son-in-law of Anthony and Margaret Capone of Everett; dear brother of Cindy Tuton and her husband, Buddy and Tracey Boyd all of Everett; adored uncle of many nieces, nephews and two great-nieces.  He is also survived by his brothers and sisters with the Mass. D.O.C.

A former employee of Sears of Saugus, she was the wife of the late Ralph A. Losano; loving mother of Lucille St. Pierre of Middleton, Sandra Sotir and her husband, Thomas of Augusta, ME, Judith Juffre and her husband, William of Danvers; beloved grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; sister of the late Gladys Hogan.

Edna Mary Gallo

Of Everett, formerly of Chelsea

Edna Mary (Perry) Gallo of Everett, formerly of Chelsea, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on August 22. She was 92 years old.

Born in Prince Edward Island in 1919 to the late John and Louise Perry,  Mrs. Gallo was a loving mother to her six children, she lived to the fullest and loved her life. She enjoyed being around her family and her friends, whether it was playing cribbage, yahtzee, scrabble or the piano, it was always more fun with Edna. She also spent a lot of time on the beach, walking or digging for treasures with her coin detector.

She was the beloved wife of the late Carmelo Gallo who died in 1985; devoted mother of Robert and his wife, Leona of North Reading, Bette of Cape Neddick ME, Ronald of Tryon, North Carolina, Linda Fenelli and her husband, Patrick of Revere, Richard of Everett and Carmelo of Chelsea; dear sister of the late Fidel Perry, Henry Perry and Bea Skeffington. She is also survived by her dear sister in law, Fran Perry, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.  Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Frank A.
