It’s far from breaking news, but the opening of nomination paper season did clear up one small mystery in this year’s mayoral race: Bob Haas is not running.

Currently an at-large councillor, Haas had told the Journal earlier this year that he wasn’t ruling out another run for mayor. Though he was largely figured to be out of the mayoral conversation, he never officially said so.

Now he has.

“No, I’m not running for mayor,” he told the Journal on Monday. “But, in all seriousness I still have people coming up to me asking me to put my name in and run. I’m not going to do that this time, though.”

Last week, Haas took out papers to run for re-election to the councillor at-large seat – a clear indication that he wasn’t going to pull a surprise run.

Councillor George Rotondo, however, wasted no time in making his mayoral run official, taking out papers last Wednesday, May 4, and getting them signed and certified by this past Monday.

Completed papers are not due back to the Election Department until July.

Councillor Dan Rizzo is expected to officially take out papers soon for his mayoral run and is expected to have them certified by the deadline.

The only question mark remains with School Committeewoman Carol Tye – whose possible mayoral run has become the mystery of all mysteries. She has yet to take out nomination papers for either School Committee or mayor. Most agree that she will probably wait until much later in the process to make her intentions known – whether it be for mayor or School Committee.

Others taking out papers by Tuesday afternoon for the upcoming City Election were as follows:
