Boys Tennis Team Nets Win over Lynn English

The Revere High boys tennis team earned its first win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Lynn English last week.

Leading the way for Coach Mike Flynn’s squad was senior captain and first singles player Malak Mossadek, who disposed of his English rival in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Also posting triumphs over their English counterparts were sophomore Mladen Pepic at third singles, 6-3, 6-1, and the second doubles tandem of juniors Nick Tran and Soun Lee, who provided the winning match in a dramatic, come from behind tiebreaker, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-2).

“Nick and Soun played their hearts out,” said Flynn. “Theirs was the deciding match and they really came through for the team.”

Senior Joseph Tran played well at second singles, but fell by a score of 6-4, 6-3. The first doubles duo of Nick Mucci and Pariwat Chaiwong also played well in a losing effort.

In the season opener against Winthrop, the Patriots almost pulled out a victory, but came out on the short end of a 3-2 decision. Pepic won his match at third singles, 6-3, 6-2, as did Tran and Lee, 6-4, 6-3. The match came down to the first doubles contest, but the Winthrop boys prevailed over Mucci and Chaiwong in three sets.

Flynn and his crew play at Gloucester tomorrow (Thursday) and host Lynn Classical at Winthrop (which will be Revere’s home court this season) on Friday. They travel to Salem next Tuesday.
