The 2010-11 edition of the Revere High hockey team will open its season tonight at Cronin Rink, hosting former GBL rival Somerville. Face off time is 6:30.
Veteran Patriot coach Jim Palumbo’s squad will be led by senior forward and captain Joe Corbett. Corbett is set to skate on the first line at left wing with junior R.J. Tiorano at center and Dale Paradise at right wing.
Palumbo’s second line will feature junior Nick Tran on left wing, junior Pat Bartol at center, and junior Peter Marino on right wing.
Holding down the fort on defense will be the quartet of junior Chris Whalen, senior Mike Testa, junior Drew Lauria, and freshman Marco Mazzarelli.
Filling the void between the pipes left by the graduation of three year starter and NEC all star Nick DiMare will be senior Jeff Redding and sophomore John Papasodora.
“We have 22 boys in the program, which is the most we’ve had in five years,†said Palumbo, whose team until last year had to practice and play for a few years in the North End while waiting for the state to find the money to fix up Cronin.
“We have many inexperienced players, but we’re working hard at practice,†added Palumbo, whose Patriots played Sunday in the Northeastern Conference Jamboree at Salem State.
After tonight’s opener, the RHS skaters will play Saturday evening against the combined Lynn English/Lynn Classical team at Lynn at 8:30 and then return to Cronin next Wednesday to host Swampscott at 6:30.
