Girls cross country team defeats Salem

The Revere High girls cross country season concluded its 2010 dual meet campaign with a 23-35 victory at Salem last Tuesday.

“Salem has designed a new course, which was quite challenging,” said RHS head coach Katie Sinnott, who noted that, “Emily DeVeau was our most improved runner and ran a great race. She outkicked a competitor and sprinted to the finish passing the girl right before the chute.”

Nikki Nelson led the way for the Lady Patriots with a second place finish in 25:05. Maggie DiPlatzi took third in 27:14, followed by Caitlyn Caramello in fifth in 27:53, Kassandra Digitale in sixth in 27:58, and Jessica Loeser in seventh in 27:59 to complete the Revere scoresheet.

Emily DeVeau finished in the top 10, grabbing eighth place with a clocking of 28:10. Also competing for Revere were Desiree Martinez in 14th in 41:34 and Natasha Pacheco in 15th in 41:35.

At Saturday’s Northeastern Conference Meet held at Bradley Palmer state, Nelson led the Revere contingent with a time of 23:33, good for 31st position. Caramello ran a 25:54, folowed by DiPlatzi in 26:13, Digitale in 26:20, and DeVeau in 28:11.

Catarina Rocha of Peabody won the race in 18:14. However, Marblehead claimed the team title.

Sinnott and her crew will compete in the State Divisional Meet next Saturday, November 13.
