The Revere High girls tennis team was leading in its match with Lynn English, but inclement weather forced the contest to be halted and to be resumed at a later date.
The Lady Patriots seemed to have the match well in hand when the rains came. Victoria Mauro captured the first singles match, 6-4, 6-1 and Yvonne Rincon triumphed at second singles, 6-2, 6-2. Mounia el-Arara fell in the third singles spot, 0-6, 3-6.
However, both of the doubles matches did not finish and will be deemed in progress with the Lady Patriots leading and on the brink of winning the match. The first singles duo of Jennifer Kingston and Donna Le were ahead 6-1, 5-3 and the second tandem of Samantha Harris and Cristina DeFabio also held the advantage over their English counterparts, 7-6 (7-1), 1-0.
A few days later, the Lady Patriots dropped a 4-1 decision to Gloucester. Rincon, playing at third singles, defeated her rival with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Elma Meskovic at No. 1, Mauro at No. 2, and both doubles teams came out on the short end of their matches with their Gloucester foes.
“The girls are working hard and gaining more experience with every match,†said RHS head coach Carla Maniscalco.
The Lady Patriots have a tough stretch this week. They were set to play Winthrop on Monday; Peabody yesterday (Tuesday); Danvers today (Wednesday); Saugus tomorrow; and Marblehead next Monday.
