RHS baseball team opens season tomorrow

After an unusually lengthy pre season, the Revere High baseball team will open its 2010 season tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon, hosting Salem at 4:00.

“We’re as ready as we’re going to be,” said RHS head coach Joe Ranno, who scheduled a heavy series of pre season scrimmages in order to have his troops ready for their first live combat.

“Overall, we did well in the scrimmages,” said Ranno. “The bats are coming around faster than they did last year and we received solid pitching from our two top starters, Nick DiMare and Jonathan Chiarelli.” However, the coach noted that he still is searching for more pitching and that he will have a number of boys playing between the varsity and JV as he continues to get a better look at some of his younger players.

DiMare will get the nod for the season opening assignment on the mound. Paul Norton will serve as his battery mate behind the plate. Bryan Robichaud will man first base, Chiarelli will take second, and Frank Colleran will hold the fort at short. Russ Goodwin will round out the infield at the hot corner,.

In the outfield, Chris Adreani will patrol center field. John DiVenuti, Jimmy Ortiz, David Krassnoff, Dale Paradise, and Jay Sasso also will see action in the outfield.

The Patriots will waste no time getting into the heart of their schedule. After the Salem game, Ranno and crew will travel to Malden on Friday; to Saugus at 10:00 a.m. Monday; and to Lynn Classical next Wednesday morning, also at 10:00.
