David Hart

Head Chef

David F. Hart died unexpectedly at his Florida home on January 19. He was 58 years old.

Born in Boston, he was a graduate of Revere High School, Class of 1969. He spent most of his life in Revere before moving to Florida three years ago. Most of his working career was spent as a chef in several of Boston’s premier restaurants and country clubs. He was currently Head Chef at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida.

He was the husband of Elizabeth "Betsy" (Willis) Hart of Revere and is survived by two sons, David F. Hart Jr. and his wife, Linda, and Patrick J. Hart, all of Revere. He was the grandfather of Andrea and Thomas Hart of Revere; son of the late David M. Hart and Jeanne (Toomey); brother of Steven N. Hart of Shady Shores, Texas, Peter J. Hart of Spokane, Washington, Brian J. Hart of Royal Palm Beach, Florida and Richard J. Hart of DeLand, Florida. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Nicholas Raduazzo

Revere resident

Nicholas A. Raduazzo of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died recently.

He was the beloved husband of Nancy ( Santaniello); loving father of Joseph D. Raduazzo of Revere; dear brother of Adeline Buttiri and her husband, Luigi, of Revere and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was the dear friend of Avis Clark.

His Funeral will be held from the Magrath Funeral Home, 325 Chelsea St. (at Day Sq.) East Boston,Thursday morning at 9 followed by his Funeral Mass in The Sacred Heart Church at 10 o’clock. Joyce Diggdon

Winthop Resident

Joyce R. Diggdon of Winthrop, formerly of Arlington, died on January 31 at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She was 80 years old.

Born in Revere, the daughter of the late Andrew W. and Katherine (Mahar) Diggdon, she was the sister of Teresa M. Diggdon of Winthrop and the late Kathleen Dewhurst, Sara Kricman and Herbert A. Diggdon. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in The Church of St. John the Evangelist, 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop on Saturday, February 6 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Revere resident, formerly of Maynard

Arthur J. DeRosby of Revere, formerly of Maynard, died on January 30.

He was the father of Johanna DeRosby-Medved of Watervliet, NY and the late Raymond DeRosby; grandfather of J. Danielle Quinn, Todd Quinn, Samantha Medved and Kenneth Medved; great-grandfather of seven; brother of Irene Gregoire of Revere.

Albert Dente

Revere resident

Albert G. Dente of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died on February 1.

A US Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he was the beloved husband of the late Anne (Basile) Dente; dear brother of Virginia Cieri of Saugus and Mary Basile and her husband, Vincent, of Stoneham and the late Josephine Gravallese, Marie Battaglia, Rose DeFronzo, Alice Pagliaro and Alphonse Dente and is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Virginia Shaughnessy

Retired Switchboard Operator, Active at Local Senior Centers

Virginia R. (Nappa) Shaughnessy died on January 31 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 79 years old.

The wife of the late Richard H. Shaughnessy, Jr., a former Revere Firefighter, she was born in Boston and raised in Beachmont. She was the daughter of the late Modestino and Ernesta (Storniuolo) Nappa.

She was a graduate of Revere High School and a retiree of PricewaterhouseCoopers in Boston where she worked as a switchboard operator. She was very active at the Saugus, Winthrop and Revere Senior Centers.

Mrs. Shaughnessy leaves two sons, Michael R. Shaughnessy and his wife, Jeanine, and Paul J. Shaughnessy and his wife, Linda, all of Revere; two grandchildren, Joseph P. Shaughnessy and Matthew P. Shaughnessy, both of Revere; one sister, Lorraine Parkes and her husband, Michael, of Revere; one niece, Carolyn Sasso of Revere and one nephew, Stephen Parkes of Revere.

Connie Nigro of Revere died on January 29. She was 96 years old.

Dominic "Donnie" Settipane, a Revere resident for most of his life, formerly of the West End, died on January 29 after a brief illness.

He was the beloved husband of the late Ella (Ciaccia); devoted father of Joseph of Everett and Donald and his wife, Kelley, of Revere; dear brother of Richard of Boston, William of Revere, and the late Joseph Settipane and is also survived by his two grandchildren, Alisha and Martino Settipane.

Francis LaMacchia of Waltham died on January 29.

Mr. LaMacchia served in the US Army during the Korean War and was the husband of Mildred L. (Moore) LaMacchia; father of Kevin F. LaMacchia and his wife, Elaine, of Revere, Robert F. LaMacchia and his wife, Paulette, of Billerica and Karen L. LaMacchia of Arlington; brother of John LaMacchia of Waltham, Salvatore LaMacchia of Sherborn, Carmelo LaMacchia, Jr., of Millis, Nora Venti of Hartford, CT, Anna Harrington of Waltham and the late Anthony, Joseph, Carmela LaMacchia, Domenica Caruso and Mary Donovan; grandfather of Christopher, Anthony, and Nicholas and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Joseph Anthony Rinaldo Jr., M.D.

Noted Gastroenterologist and Author

Joseph Anthony Rinaldo, Jr., M.D., died on January 29 in San Diego, CA. He was 84 years old.

He was born in Chelsea on October 6, 1925 to Alvina Uva and Joseph Anthony Rinaldo of Revere and Concord. He enrolled in Harvard College before serving in the U.S. Infantry in World War II. Sergeant Rinaldo was honorably discharged with a Silver Star in 1946, and graduated with the Harvard College class of 1946 and from Harvard University Medical School in 1952.

Beginning in 1955, he specialized in gastroenterology in Detroit at Henry Ford Hospital, Mt. Carmel Mercy Hospital and Providence Hospital, where he also served as Medical Director from 1970 to 1990. He served as president of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in 1974, and published over 50 papers, including groundbreaking research in esophageal motility.

He and his wife of 60 years, Rosemarie Mordelia (Mordeglia), daughter of Blanche and Pietro Mordelia, of Revere, moved to San Diego, CA in 1990, where he worked as a Clinical Professor at Univ. of CA San Diego School of Medicine before retiring to write Metronome, A Life in Poetry and My Lucky War, A Memoir.

Dr. Rinaldo is survived by his wife and children, Patrice Cassedy, Barbara Rinaldo, and Paul Rinaldo, all of San Diego, California, and Joseph Anthony ("Tony") Rinaldo, III of Concord, MA.

Frances Cahill

Long time ICC employee, member of Catholic Daughters and Revere Womens’ Club

Frances L. (Marshall) Cahill of Swampscott, formerly of Revere, died on January 26 at the Bertram House of Swampscott where she had lived for the past year. She was 88 years old.

Born and raised in Lynn, she was a graduate of Lynn Girls High School, Class of 1939. She moved to Revere in 1948 and began working for the former Tomeo’s Market on Broadway as a cashier. She also worked within the clerical staff at GE o Lynn for several years. For more than 30 years, she was a volunteer and an employee of the Immaculate Conception Parish Community. She was most often found working in the rectory, as a cook, secretary and greeter, a position she loved and held until her health began to fail just four years ago.

"Franny" was a long time member of the Catholic Daughters of America-Court Maplewood (formerly Court James Lee) and the Revere Womens’ Club.

She was the wife of the late Charles R. Cahill who died in March of 2004; devoted mother of Marie L. Farrell and Theresa J. Cahill, both of Lynn, and Joan F. Glancy and her husband, Jack, of Peabody; cherished grandmother of Jenna M. Glancy of Peabody; dear sister of Francis Marshall and his wife, Kathy, of Merriden CT and is also lovingly survived by her aunt, Dorothea Marshall of Lynn.

David ‘Bud’ Latta

Retired MBTA Instructor

David M. "Bud" Latta of Charlestown died on January 27.

A US Navy veteran of World War II, he was a retired instructor at the MBTA and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Mary’s Conference and Bunker Hill Post 26 A/L.

He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline M. (Luse); devoted father of Dianne Farmer Ludy of Beachmont, Cheryl Webber of Reading, Sharon Brady of Charlestown, Karen Gelaides of Lynnfield, and David C. Latta of Everett; brother of Eileen Breen of Brockton and Barry Latta of Florida and is also survived by 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Irving Herman

Retired Dental Lab Owner

Irving Herman died on January 27 at the Kirkwood House in Wakefield. He was 90 years old.

Born in Boston, he resided in Revere for 25 years and in Brookline for 25 years. He was educated in the Winthrop Schools and was a graduate of Winthrop High School.

A US Army veteran of World War II, he was a dental technician and the former owner of the Needham Dental Lab for many years. He was very devoted to his entire family.

He was the beloved husband of the late Ida (Levine) Herman; the devoted father of Eileen Herman-Haase and her husband, Howard, Nancy Auerbach and her husband, Paul, and the late Jane Perry. He is also survived by his son in law Skip Perry. He was the dear brother of the late Rose Bloomfield, Abraham Herman, Isadore Herman, Phillip Herman, Cyd Bozaan and the loving grandfather of Michelle Perry, Joshua Auerbach and Haylee Herman-Haase.

Louis Proto of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died unexpectedly on January 26. He was 83 years old.

A US Army Veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Post 6712 (Beachmont), he was the husband of the late Frances L. (Barbacano); devoted father of Laura A. MacCombie and her husband, Robert, of Phillipston, MA, Judith P. Bevis and her husband, Timothy P., of Gardner, MA and Lois P. Mazzola and her husband, Steven, of Westwood; dear brother of Alfonso Proto of Florida, Anna Dineen and Guida Pasco, both of East Boston and the late Flora Arena. He is also lovingly survived by his best friend, Helen McGrath of Georgetown, MA, seven grandchildren and one great grandson.

Sandra L. (Recupero) Ferrara of Saugus, formerly of Revere, died on January 27.

A graduate of Revere High School, Class of 1982 and Emmanuel College, she was a Medical Technician at Shriners Hospital, Boston.

She was he beloved wife of Luigi; devoted mother of Marco and Cristina, both at home; loving daughter of Teresa (D’Itria) Recupero and the late Henry; dear sister of Diana Pepe and her husband, Joe, and Theresa Marino and her husband, Larry, all of Revere; cherished aunt of Domenic, Angelia and Grace and is also survived by many loving family members in Grottaminarda Avellino, Italy.

Daniel DiBenedetto

US Postal Service retiree, Revere Elks member

Daniel J. DiBenedetto of Revere died on January 27. He was 84 years old.

A US Navy Veteran who served on the USS Boise, he was a member of the Revere Lodge of Elks Post 1171 and a retired letter carrier at the US Postal Service, Somerville Branch.

The former husband of Concetta (Saggese), he was the beloved father of Daniel DiBenedetto and his wife, Linda, of Everett, Andrea Mongiello and her husband, John, of Revere, Anthony J. DiBenedetto and his wife, Maryann, of New Hampshire; son of the late Antonio and Giuseppa (DiDonato) DiBenedetto; brother of the late Augustino, Ralph, Ernest, Frank and Bartholomeo and is also lovingly survived by seven grandchildren, Daniel, Tony, Michael, John, Angela M., Angela R., Nicole and 13 great-grandchildren.

Carlos Tejeda

Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home employee

Carlos Tejeda of Chelsea died at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston on January 25. He was 70 years old.

He came to Chelsea many years ago and worked at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home in building support services.

Born and raised in Trujillo, Honduras, he was the loving son of the late Jose N. Tejeda and Irene (Murillo) and is survived by his wife, Bertha Tejeda, of Chelsea; one daughter, Zulma Palencia and her husband, Jonathan, of Malden and two sons, Ramon Tejeda, of Chelsea and Carlos Tejeda and his wife, Carmen, of Revere.

Priscilla (Dean) Pirkey of Florida, formerly of Malden, died on January 25. She was 73 years old.

She was the beloved wife of 55 years of Hensel E. Pirkey Sr.; mother of Susan Eccleston, Hensel E. Pirkey, Jr. and his wife, Lucy, Michael Pirkey, and Debra Scopa; sister of Lorraine Cassidy, Carol Perry, William Dean, Roy Dean, and the late Marilyn Carey and Chester Dean. She is also survived by five grandchildren (Carissa, Scott, James, Nicholas, and Katy).
